Artist's Statement
Most of the artwork consists of two-dimensional depictions of people, landscapes, or the Karenni community that are significant to the artist. The artist created her pieces using traditional drawing and painting materials. The relationships she develops with her family, culture, and personal life shape the artwork she creates, which uses art to tell stories about her life or the community. The interest in creating art started when the artist was a child between her friends and family, a competition to see who could create the best artwork. It all begins with a challenge and develops into a passion to create art that is deeply connected to her. The strong connection between family and community is what drives her to create something that is personal and sentimental. The significance of the creation of arts is a way to capture the essence of her memories as well as her present and future regarding her life and community. Additionally, it is an act of love for her loved ones, friends, and the community in which she is part of. The intentions of the artist for creating art are to evoke the feelings of nostalgia from the past and the future she visualizes. The direction that the artist is moving toward is to continue creating two-dimensional work that will represent her life and the Karenni community, with materials she is currently using and adding additional materials to experiment with further.
